NAppSTONES (Naples – APPlication – STONES) rises with the aim to promote and enhance the monumental and geological heritage of the Ancient Center of Naples.
The application proposes a series of points of interest (POI), accurately selected and grouped into two thematic itineraries, Churches and Cloisters, through which the user will be guided to discover the main ornamental stones that characterize monuments of both historical and geomaterialistic considerable value.
Both the itineraries cross the streets of the Ancient Center of Naples and show some of the most representative aspects of the town, from the point of view of both a geologist and a tourist.
The Itinerary of the Churches, long around 1 km, crosses the Decumanus Inferiore (Spaccanapoli) of the ancient town and is walkable on foot in about 15 minutes. It includes the following points of interest:

1) Church of Sant’Anna dei Lombardi;
2) Church of Gesù Nuovo;
3) Basilica of Santa Chiara;
4) Church of San Domenico Maggiore;
5) Church of Gesù Vecchio.

The Itinerary of the Cloisters, long around 2 km and walkable on foot in about 30 minutes, includes the following points of interest:

1) Cloister of San Pietro Martire;
2) Cloister of the Saints Marcellino and Festo;
3) Courtyard of the Salvatore;
4) Cloister of the Girolamini.

In addition to these thematic itineraries, it has been added a single point of interest, the Royal Museum of Mineralogy, intercepted by both the itineraries, where it is possible to observe some of the described materials in addition to one among the most important, for historical and scientific value, collections of minerals.
The data related to the sheets ‘monuments/materials’ are read on demand by the application through the interrogation of a central database (data entry) present on the platform DATABENC.
The application presents a starting screen in which it is possible to select four entries:
Clicking on ‘Map’ you see the position, in Google Maps, of the Points of Interest, clickable them too. Moreover, the position of the user is shown.
In ‘Points of Interest’, there is the complete list of the Churches and the Cloisters. Clicking on each of them, you enter a new screen containing historical-cultural information of the used facing geomaterials.
In ‘Building Stones’, from the list of all the identified materials, it is possible to enter the single sheets. Each sheet includes mineralogical-petrological, geological and of past and present exploitation information of the resource, in addition to attachments about the macroscopic aspect of the materials and the geological map with the position of the related mining sites. In the sheet of each material, moreover, there is the clickable list of all the Points of Interest where the same material is present.
In ‘Thematic Itineraries’, the screen highlights, on map, the two itineraries with the related clickable Points of Interest. Moreover, it is possible to access, through the use of two buttons, information such as length and duration of the path.
The application includes the possibility to reproduce the contents of the sheets, both in Italian and in English, through audio files.
